Description
Safety is a state of being “safe”. It refers to a state of not being at risk of being harmed or otherwise subjected to an aversive experience. Fear is the main emotion when a threat to its safety has been perceived. Both general external events (e.g. a predator) and social conditions (e.g. aggression) can induce fear. Loss of control generates safety issues.
Safety is an important prerequisite for the pursuit of happiness in both animals and humans. People who promote animal welfare openly are likely to experience fear, because they will be ‘attacked’ by other people who are not willing to give up (some of) their power and freedom to (ab-)use animals.
Safety is a very important prerequisite for animal welfare.
